A church minister swapped the pulpit for the treadmill at the weekend as she raised more than £1,000 towards renovations of the building.
Rev Daphne Lloyd will say goodbye to her congregation at the Swaffham Methodist Church during a farewell service at the London Street site tomorrow.
But, proving it’s never too late to enjoy a healthy lifestyle, the 78-year-old spent part of her final full weekend in the role undertaking a 60 minute workout to help the ongoing appeal to fund repairs and renovations.
Rev Lloyd said the workout idea was born out of a challenge set by one of the church’s members.
She added: “I’m very pleased to have been able to do it for them.
“The church has been at the centre of life in Swaffham for more than 200 years and we wish it to be renovated so it can be opened up, not just for church members, but the community at large.”
So far, the workout, which was undertaken at the Style fitness and health centre in Norwich on Saturday, has raised £1,062 towards repairs to the church’s roof and the appeal to modernise the interior.
