A Swaffham undertaker who set up a foundation to pay for children’s funerals has been granted charity status.
Andrew Francis set up the Francis Foundation to help families who are going through the tragedy of losing a child.
The foundation was set up two years ago and has now been granted charity status.
Mr Francis wants to pay for funerals of youngsters across the region via the foundation.
He is now hoping to raise awareness of the foundation across the area.
Mr Francis says there are between 15 and 20 funerals for children in Norfolk each year.
The average cost for a child’s funeral ranges between £400 to £3,500.
Mr Francis said: “There is nothing more heartbreaking than dealing with the loss of a child.
“And then to hand them a bill felt wrong to me and I wanted to do something to help.” Mr Francis is being joined in the effort by other fundraisers. A host of events are being organised during the year to help generate the money needed to pay for the funerals.
The foundation is open to any families struggling with the loss of a child no matter what the financial circumstances.
The charity aims to help families who have lost a child under the age of 16. If you would like to know more contact Mr Francis on 01760 720200.
