Officials from Swaffham’s Rotary Club have praised residents for their support after more than £1,400 was raised to support the victims of last month’s earthquake in Nepal.
The club held two days of collections in the town centre and at Tesco in Brocks Road on Friday and Saturday, through which a total of £1,404 was raised.
Club president Jane Harding said the total was a “great result.”
And Malcolm Whittley, chairman of the club’s international committee, who organised the event, said: “This was one of the highest disaster collections the club had made.
“I have to thank all the members of the club who took part in the collection, Costa Coffee who had provided a base for collectors and Tesco for the Saturday collection.
“But, most of all, I want to say a big thank you to the kind people of Swaffham who gave so generously over the two days to help alleviate the problems caused by this terrible disaster.”
