All Our Yesterdays: Taking a look back at days out, celebrations, and a royal visit to West Norfolk
In this week’s All Our Yesterday feature, we take a look back at village news and views throughout the years…
June 2013: King’s Lynn Ramblers celebrated their 40th anniversary with, appropriately, a ramble. They were joined by North West Norfolk MP Henry Bellingham who is pictured with some of the 60 members and former members setting off from Leziate.
June 2001: Summer fun for more than 70 youngsters from West Norfolk schools who enjoyed a Rotary “KidsOut Day” at Pleasurewood Hills near Lowestoft. Rotary clubs from Downham, Hunstanton and Lynn pooled their resources and pictured with the children are club presidents Bill Irwin (King’s Lynn Rotary), John Reed (Priory Rotary) and Eric Bradford (King’s Lynn Trinity).
June 2010: Meet the team – Trudy Rudd (fifth from left) and daughter Gemma (second left) who had opened the new fish bar in Lynn’s North End. June 2010: Prince Andrew visited Hunstanton Golf Club’s annual match with the RAF Golfing Society and is pictured with Norfolk’s Deputy Lord Lieutenant Paddy Seligman.
June 2014: Veterans’ charities and former service personnel led Lynn’s commemorations of the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings. Pictured here, RBL officials and members of the British Korean Veterans Association’s West Norfolk branch honour those who fell on the French beaches.
June 2014: Pubs and bars across West Norfolk were gearing up for a World Cup bonanza, starting off with England playing Italy. Chicago’s staff in Lynn, from left, Richard Tice, Jacob West, Luke Harris Daniel Wagg and Steven Kirby were ready to cheer on Roy’s boys. But sadly, Hodgson’s team lost 2-1 to Italy and eventually crashed out in the group stage.
June 2014: Pupils, parents and staff at Lynn’s Springwood High School helped raise £4,300 for Cancer Research UK in a Race for Life fun event which included this space hopper.
June 2014: Bikers set off from the site of the new hospice at Hillington on a 100-mile fundraising trip around the west of the county. It was the first of its kind in aid of Norfolk Hospice, Tapping House.
June 2014: A joint Lynn reunion for former pupils at the King Edward VII School and the West Norfolk and King’s Lynn High School for Girls was held at KES.
