Review of Petals Tea Room in Dersingham: Business delivers excellent service and perfect afternoon tea for two
What better reason for a spot of high tea than a sunny afternoon spent with a friend?
Actually it was a belated birthday celebration and a long-overdue catch-up so Petals Tea Room in Dersingham turned out to be the perfect place.
My friend Robin, 80, lives in the village, as I do, a stone’s throw away from Sandringham.
I booked a table in advance for 12.30pm and the weather was on our side.
The tea room is sitauted on Manor Road brightening up the corner where dog walkers can walk down the hill from the woods for a cuppa and a cake.
But Petals is much more than that too as our visit proved, with a baby shower and an 80th birthday taking place, it makes a firm family favourite for special occasions.
The venue is quaint and it was full up with visitors by the time we left after a couple of hours, chatting with each other and other people passing through.
It is brightly decorated and owner Kevin Andrews–Stott also presents his jewellery range and glassware gifts that he makes himself.
In fact I bought some earrings for my friend whose birthday is coming up and Kevin also gifted me and the lady whose 80th birthday it was with a beautiful window ornament.
Robin and I chose from the menu, which also includes vegan and gluten free options that are displayed in a separate fridge.
Robin had the Primrose Cream Tea, a freshly baked scone served with clotted cream, preserve and a pot of traditional English Breakfast tea (£6.50).
He said it was lovely and just enough.
I decided on the savoury version, the Hollyhock Tea with a freshly baked cheese scone served with cream cheese, chilli jam (£6.50) and I had a pressed raspberry lemonade which is included in the price.
Robin and I both tried the tasty drink and it was sharp and refreshing.
I also had a pot of tea which comes as loose leaf in a silver tea pot with dainty cups and it really is a feeling of Alice in Wonderland with a little tea strainer and sugar cubes.
Our scones were tasty, fresh and filling and the afternoon tea cake stands that we saw on the other tables that other guests had chosen looked impressive.
The cakes at the till looked too delicious to resist so I took a couple home for the family.
A ginger and rhubarb cupcake and a piece of carrot cake went down well with them when I returned.
Petals has recently hosted a murder mystery afternoon in collaboration with By The Book in Hunstanton and they will be having another event on May 16.
It is a unique and lovely venue to enjoy a visit to, and is also dog friendly with a Petals Pooches photo board.
With friendly service from Kevin and his team there is really no reason not to go and try it out for a perfect afternoon. We feel lucky to have Petals on our doorstep in Dersingham.
