Temporary banking hub comes to Downham Market Town Hall

A temporary hub has opened in a soon-to-be bankless town, offering residents basic banking and cash services.

The organisation Cash Access UK has set up shop in Downham Town Hall and will provide residents and businesses with financial help.

It is open from Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and will offer a counter service operated by the Post Office.

Customers of all major banks and building societies can carry out regular cash transactions. It also offers a community banker service, where customers can talk to their own bank about more complicated issues.

The temporary home has been provided by Downham Town Council while a permanent home is secured.

Community bankers will work on rotation, with a different bank available on each day of the week.

HSBC will be there on Mondays, Lloyds (which closes in Downham on March 25) will be there on Tuesdays, Wednesdays will be Santander, Thursdays NatWest and Fridays will be Barclays.

Downham mayor Cllr John Doyle said: “Downham Town Council is proud to be able to provide a temporary home to the Banking Hub, helping to maintain banking services in the town for the benefit of our residents.”

Gareth Oakley, CEO at Cash Access UK, added: “I’m happy to announce that we are opening a temporary Banking Hub in Downham.

“It’s a big step in protecting local residents and businesses’ access to cash and face-to-face services.
