Textile artworks at Thornham

Work by textile artists from around the UK inspired by multiple exposure photographs was displayed at Thornham Village Hall over the weekend.

The exhibition was curated by Melanie Venes who set the design challenge with five images featuring Thornham Harbour. The work was arranged so visitors could follow the design process from original image, through sketch books and textile samples, to the finished art works.

Mrs Venes said: “My aim for the exhibition was to show not only beautiful hand-made items, but also the skills behind the process of designing and creating them. The design process is the same whatever the technique – choosing colours and materials, sampling, refining ideas, problem-solving – but the outcomes can be so very different.

“I meet regularly with textile artists working in a range of disciplines in fibre, fabrics and thread. When I first saw David Townshend’s photographs I knew they would create a stir.

“The result was very pleasing indeed, 60 textile interpretations produced by 40 artists, and the added bonus of a display of new photographs by David.”
