The Darkness end Festival Too on a high note
Festival Too saw something of a homecoming as The Darkness wrapped up the event on Saturday night with Rufus Tiger Taylor on the drums.
He is the son of Lynn-born Roger Taylor, who went on to fame and fortune with Queen.
Playing to a packed Tuesday Market Place,The Lowestoft-based chart-toppers led by brothers Justin and Dan Hawkins were flamboyant, larger than life, and pure unadulterated fun.
They ignored the curfew, used naughty words, and generally personified rock and roll and the crowd loved them.
The set wrapped up a great weekend starting on Friday with Battle of the Bands acoustic winner Chloe Lorentzen. She was followed by Eluders, a grunge act and then all-girl trio The Kut, currently riding high in the UK rock chart, while the return of Norfolk rapper Frankie Fraize did not disappoint.
Headliners The Sherlocks pulled out all the stops and showed they are a great rock band.
On Saturday the line-up started with the gentle sound of Reis, from the College of West Anglia, The Landed (highlight an uproarious versions of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Freebird), the excellent Battle of the Bands winners Dishy Tangent and local favourites Bear Club, who wowed the crowd with some great covers including Belinda Carlisle, Outkast and Taylor Swift.
It may have been over for most people, but the Festival Too team worked past 4am to get things cleared up and the stages moved away. They’ll already be planning next year’s festival, although 2018 will be a tough act to follow…. But then, we said that about 2017 didn’t we?
