King's Lynn business catering for meat eaters, vegans and vegetarians opens its doors

A new street food business which caters for meat eaters, vegans and vegetarians has opened its doors in Lynn.

PJ's Street Food and Catering, based at Brights Court on Austin Fields, offers a wide variety of street food, as well as providing a catering service to the public and West Norfolk businesses.

And the business, which opens six days a week, is trialling deliveries this coming Friday and Saturday.

Joint owner Paul Reeve, who is a vegan himself, opened the business after feeling that there was a lack of options for vegan eaters in West Norfolk.

Mr Reeve said: "I have been vegan since October 2019 and am very much enjoying and reaping all the benefits of being vegan.

"The only negative for me as a vegan, is the lack of vegan food options in our area, in particular restaurants and takeaways, who only offer extremely limited vegan options.

"This is when I realised there was a huge gap in this area for a vegan and healthy food option takeaway.

"I wondered how many other vegans and vegetarians around our area are feeling the same, and the idea was born."

Mr Reeve teamed up with chef and fellow joint owner Jules Jackson, who possesses a wealth of experience in the food industry having worked in restaurants, hotels and pubs, as well as developing products for farm shops, estates and a local smoke house.

Mr Jackson, who also set up a small deli in Wells-Next-The-Sea, has received a regional food heroes award and was recommended by BBC Good Food and Delicious Magazine amongst others.

"Jules, who had been furloughed all year, jumped at the chance of being involved creatively in this alternative venture and this is where we came up with the name PJ’s," explained Mr Reeve

"With PJ’s we decided that we wanted to offer our food to everyone, vegan’s, vegetarians, and meat-eaters.

"Our aim is to consistently offer something different to our customers and Jules is constantly thinking up new, exciting dishes, he never sits still.

"We certainly do not push vegan options on our customers, but are very happy that people seem to be open minded to trying this option."

All food, which is locally sourced, is cooked fresh with Priors of West Lynn supplying the meat and Smiths the Bakers providing the bread products.

All of PJ's packaging is eco-friendly, compostable, bio-degradable, using close to zero plastic, and striving to source 100 per cent eco-friendly packaging.

Mr Reeve, who thanked landlord Marcus Mallett, of Brights Cleaning Services LTD for all of his support, added: "Once the takeaway is established, we will be providing a full catering service to businesses in the town.

"This will obviously be when the COVID pandemic has eased, and life gets back to some form of normality.

"We offer breakfast and lunch time deliveries to town centre businesses and have already had several in the town ordering from us, which is fantastic."

The business is open from 9am to 2pm Monday to Saturday and also between 5pm and 10pm on a Friday and Saturday

All pre-orders must be pre-paid. Anyone wishing to make an order or use the delivery trial this weekend should call 07561 693577.
