A few years ago Margaret Bullen came back from a holiday in California where she had been very impressed by the Capitola sea wall art tiles.
The tiles along the landward side of the Capitola sea wall were the culmination of a community art project lasting several months.
Blank 8x6in tiles were available for $35 each, and people of all ages were invited to paint or decorate tiles with their own design at the Petroglyph Ceramic Lounge.
Margaret brought back a book on the project which she showed to members of Hunstanton Civic Society and when Paint Me Ceramics opened it was not long before a wall beneath the day chalets on the north promenade was chosen for a similar display.
It is therefore highly appropriate that this Sunday the Hunstanton Carnival, with its “Star Spangled Banner and All things American” theme, will have a stall relaunching the ceramic tiles for the Hunstanton seafront project with the new owners of Paint Me Ceramics.
The theme this year is Seaside Memories, with tiles costing £10 each instead of £15, thanks to support from Hunstanton & District Festival of Arts.
Details are available from Suzy Mason at Paint Me Ceramics on 01485 534340.
Schools will also be involved with their own competition. There are nine panels to fill down on the north promenade and the aim is to complete another two.
