Time Machine up and running in West Norfolk to cover history
West Norfolk now has a fantastic new learning, heritage and tourism asset after the launch of the Time Machine King’s Lynn website.
The launch took place on Thursday at the Town Hall in Lynn in the presence of the mayor.
Time Machine King’s Lynn (TMKL) is the brainchild of four local men who have planned and funded the site entirely themselves.
They are local solicitor Simon Ring, Martin Little, videographer Robert Fuller and his son Jason, a website designer.
The site went live on Friday morning and those logging into its pages can find a treasure trove of information on Lynn and its heritage.
Aerial footage of the town was taken from a helicopter and has been married to commentary and captions explaining what it is the viewer is looking at and how it came to be what we see today.
A drone has been used inside the Minster for a piece on its history.
Giving his presentation at the launch, Mr Ring said it had taken three years to get to this point and there was still much to do.
“There is no end to this site,” he said. “This is a monster that we plan will go on n for a long time. The history of King’s Lynn is vast.”
He said he was hopeful that work could be done with primary schools to arouse interest in schoolchildren of their town’s history.
He said: “This town has a bright future and that future is embedded in its rich past.”
The non-profit making site would be constantly adding more material. It was intended to push beyond the boundaries of Lynn to tell the story.
“You cannot tell the story of Lynn without telling the story of Castle Rising, for example” he said.
Borough mayor Nick Daubney paid tribute to the work done on the site.
He said:”I really was not sure what to expect. The passion that was brought to the project means it is going to be a great success.”
