Socius in Burnham Market champions King’s Lynn’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s charity by adding discretionary £1 charge to customers' bills

An award-winning restaurant is taking its sharing approach to a new level by enticing diners to support a hospital charity.

Socius in Burnham Market, which was named AA Restaurant of the Year two years ago and has earned recognition in prestigious guides such as Michelin, is generously supporting the hospital’s charity by adding a discretionary £1 charge to patrons’ bills from this month.

Every £1 donation supports The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Lynn (QEHKL) to fund projects and services that fall outside NHS regular funding, by supporting enhanced patient care and comfort, advanced medical equipment and staff welfare and development initiatives.

Its recent projects have included the £1.6m purpose-built Peddars Way End of Life Unit, a tranquil and dignified space for patients to spend their final hours and days of life surrounded by loved ones, and the rollout of robotic-assisted surgery using a £1m cutting-edge system.

Founded in 2018 by Natalie and Dan Lawrence, Socius – renowned for its exceptional food and creative approach to dining – was born of their dream to create a special dining space where everyone feels welcome.

Even its name Socius, meaning ‘sharing’ in Latin, reflects its ethos of bringing people together over locally sourced, seasonally inspired small plates and snacks designed for sharing.

Since opening, Natalie and Dan have been dedicated to giving back to the community that has supported them.

Natalie said: “We believe in the power of community, and we are honoured to support QEHKL Charity.

“It is our way of giving back to the incredible people who have supported us, and we hope our efforts will make a difference for those who use the hospital.”

Sam Taylor, charity manager at QEHKL Charity, added: “We are immensely grateful to Natalie and Dan for their generous support.

“Their commitment to giving back to the community is truly inspiring, and their fundraising efforts will make a real difference in the lives of those we serve at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital.”
