A year after Lynn welcomed a celebration of the legendary Spitfire, a new aviation-themed trail is set to be unveiled soon.

In 2016, another great RAF plane will be the subject of appreciation, the Tornado

Model Tornado aircraft will be placed along a walking ‘arts trail’ that will showcase the towns historic core and also celebrate and commemorate RAF Marham’s 100th anniversary.

The trail is organised by Flight Lt Pauline Petch, of the town’s 42F (King’s Lynn) Air Cadets, in collaboration with the West Norfolk Council.

Last year’s trail substantially increased visitor numbers to the town centre and raised thousands of pounds for charity.

It is anticipated that this year’s trail, with its association with RAF Marham, will again boost tourism in the area.

The trail will be one of RAF Marham’s ‘100 events’ of 2016 that will celebrate its centenary, with each model displaying different information about the RAF base, together with details of the individual models sponsor.

The first 4ft fibreglass Tornado left the assembly line and touched down at the King’s Lynn Air Cadet headquarters on Monday.

Already 12 models have been sponsored and it is hoped that further businesses will want to be involved in this innovative event that will showcase their company, the town of Lynn and RAF Marham during this very special year for the base.

Sponsors can have their Tornado painted to their individual design and, after the trail has ended, can donate to a charity and keep the model, or it can be auctioned off, the proceeds going to a charity of their choice.

The trail will be ‘flying’ from June to September.
