Swaffham chosen to have £350,000 funding from Norfolk Climate Change Partnership Fast Followers programme

Swaffham has been chosen to lead Breckland in a new climate-based scheme to help work towards becoming Net Zero.

The town has been chosen as part of Norfolk Climate Change Partnership’s (NCCP) Fast Followers project, which aims to introduce low-carbon adaptations such as community energy schemes.

Councillors were informed about the £350,000 funding from the Fast Followers programme at a full meeting at Swaffham Town Council by Breckland Councillor David Wickerson.

Cllr Wickerson said: “I think it is an opportunity for Swaffham, as far as Breckland is concerned, to lead the way with climate change.”

Cllr Wickerson read out an email sent to himself and fellow Breckland Councillors for Swaffham from Breckland Council executive director Jason Cole.

The email said: “I’m delighted to confirm that using data and working with Cllr Helen Crane (cabinet member for environment) we have requested that NCCP chooses Swaffham as Brecklands Community.

“Each district was asked to select a community to take part in the Norfolk Net Zero clean project.

“Any activities will be organised with NCCP who are seeking to engage with Swaffham residents.”

The email added: “The project outcomes are to secure signposting to net zero opportunities, generate supplier awareness and skill development and more detail will be made available through NCCP.”
