Hunstanton civic leaders to launch Christmas toy appeal

It may seem a little early to think about it, but community leaders in Hunstanton are planning to launch their Christmas toy appeal for 2021 next week.

The initiative follows a gift appeal launched by the then town Mayor, Tony Bishopp, last year, in an effort to help bring much needed cheer to people in need during the festive period at the height of the coronavirus crisis.

Now, Mr Bishopp’s successor in the civic role, Adrian Winnington, is appealing for residents and businesses to get behind a similar programme this year.

The appeal is due to be formally launched during a community day to be held next Wednesday, September 1, from 2pm until 7pm in the recently refurbished town hall.

A host of community groups are expected to attend the event.

New unwrapped toys, gift vouchers, toiletries, pyjamas and stocking fillers for children of all ages are needed and welcomed as part of the appeal.

Town council officials say donations of gift cards and toiletries are especially welcome for older children and teenagers.

Items can be donated by purchasing online and sending to Hunstanton Mayor’s Christmas Gift Appeal, Town Hall, The Green, Hunstanton PE36 6BQ.

Gifts can be dropped off at the donation point at the community centre in Avenue Road, Hunstanton or the Town Hall, The Green, Hunstanton. Financial donations may be made by cheque, cash or direct bank payment.

People are asked to send their donations by Friday, December 17 in time to be given out for Christmas Day.
