Teenager meets trucking idol in festive convoy from Sutton Bridge to Boston’s Pilgrim Hospital

A teenager got to meet his trucking idol as a record number of vehicles took part in a convoy taking presents to a children’s ward.

Up to 224 cars, vans, lorries, bikes and tractors took part in the Christmas convoy between Sutton Bridge and Boston’s Pilgrim Hospital, which had been organised by Lincolnshire Vanlife and Lincs Lowlife Car Club.

Karen Barnes’ son Logan, 15 - who lives in Devon and has family in Holbeach - was keen to meet his social media idols, special guests Shaun Lombardo of G and CA Lombardo Ltd. Unfortunately Trucker Tim couldn’t make the convoy at the last minute.

Karen said: “My son has DiGeorge syndrome, learning difficulties, heart disease and scoliosis.

“He has had three open heart surgeries and spine surgery and currently has an aneurysm in his heart.

“Logan is a massive massive fan of Trucker Tim and Shaun Lombardo so it was brilliant to get a photo with him.”

Shaun Finnemore who helps organise the event with Diane Ranshaw was thrilled with the event’s success.

He said: “There were so many highlights this year.

“One in particular is a family that has a teenager who has heart problems who met Shaun Lombardo who is one of his heroes.

“He made this lad’s dream come true.”

Mr Lombardo travelled from March in Cambridgeshire to be part of the convoy as a special guest.

He said: “We would like to thank all the members that arranged the children’s hospital run.

“It is an absolutely brilliant organisation.

“Thanks to all you that stood out waving on an absolutely brilliant night.”

Mr Finnemore is already preparing next year’s convoy and hopes to take it through Boston town centre and also raise funds for another worthy cause.

He said: “We hope to do something for Boston Women’s Aid - for women and children who are experiencing domestic abuse.

“It is the members of the public that make this possible and without them, we couldn’t do it.

“It is seeing the smiles on people’s faces that make it so special.”
