Liz Truss calls for more fighter jets to be sent to aid Ukraine war effort against Russia
Liz Truss has called for more fighter jets to be sent to Ukraine of the anniversary of the country being invaded.
The South West Norfolk MP was serving as Foreign Secretary at the time the war with Russia began.
She has since taken on the role of Prime Minister before returning to front-line politics, but has continued to voice support for Ukraine.
Speaking in the House of Commons on Monday, Ms Truss said the UK has got to do “all we can” to win the war.
She said: “Every extra day means lives lost, women violated and towns destroyed. We need to do all we can, as fast as we can - in my view, that includes fighter jets.
“I do believe that Ukraine will win the war - there is no way that Russia will win the war - but we need to make sure that the future of Russia is a more positive future than the one that we enabled at the end of the cold war.
“We need to make sure that Russia pays for the crimes that it has committed and that it is held to account for the appalling atrocities and war crimes - all of them.”
Ms Truss added that she believes important lessons need to be learned regarding “how we deal with authoritarian regimes more broadly”. She once again referenced the current regime in China, a subject she has been particularly vocal on.
