Downham Market Academy and Hillcrest Primary School close as pump failure leaves some residents without water

Two schools have closed as a pump failure has left some Downham residents without water this morning.

Downham Market Academy and Hillcrest Primary School have both shut due to an insufficient water supply.

Anglian Water has said, in a statement on its website: “We’re really sorry but some customers in Downham Market and the surrounding area may have no water and/or low pressure.

“This is being caused by a pump failure.

“We’re working hard to get your water supply back to normal as soon as possible.”

It is estimated that Anglian Water engineers will have the supply back up and running by midday.

The emergency school closures page on the Norfolk County Council website says that Downham Market Academy has shut as it has no water, while Hillcrest Primary School has closed “due to loss of mains water”.
