Both drivers were taken to hospital – the BMW driver sustained serious injuries while the Toyota driver suffered minor injuries.

The vehicles were recovered and the road was re-opened at 10.40am.

The East Anglian Air Ambulance team said they were called to assist a man in his 20s who was injured in a collision near Narborough, just before 8am.

The helicopter was landed on a field next to the scene, and the medical team gave the patient a full assessment, administered advanced pain relief and treated and splinted an injury.

They then accompanied the patient to the QEH, by land ambulance, for further treatment.
