Two top awards for Sculthorpe Mill
A village pub is celebrating after receiving two top newspaper accolades.
Sculthorpe Mill has been named one of the Best Pub Lunches in Britain in The Guardian and also come runner-up in the Observer Food Awards for Best Place to Drink
Owners Siobhan and Caitriona Peyton paid tribute to their staff, customers and suppliers, with Siobhan adding: “To have been named in two such prestigious publications for both our food and drink is testament to our team as well as the amazing array of local suppliers we are blessed with.
"We aim to make The Mill a place for everyone and to be recognised for bar snacks, drinks offering, our lunch on Sundays and the stunning riverside location was fantastic."
The Guardian said: “Given north Norfolk's many attractions, the village of Sculthorpe is unlikely to be first on a visitor's agenda. It's just off the A148 near Fakenham, between the west coast and the birdwatching havens and seaside towns further east.
"But it's precisely this location which makes Sculthorpe Mill, the village pub which was recently given a beautiful makeover, a useful gem. Handy, too, that it happens to serve some of the best Sunday lunches in East Anglia."
Caitriona added: “We have just launched a brand new Lunch on Sunday menu so the timing couldn’t be better.
"Lunch on Sunday includes dishes such as half a chicken with braised white beans, cavalo nero and Nduja sausage, as well as shin of beef on the bone with glazed carrots and Colcannon mash, and also a stunning sharing dish of whole roasted Grey Mullet with tarragon mash, sauteéd Ceps and red wine sauce.
"We serve this alongside a full menu of Sculthorpe Mill classics and bar snacks, so there really is something for everyone."
The Observer said: “A pretty heritage pub and watermill on the River Wensum with extensive beer garden, cosy rooms with exposed beams, local brews and spirits (including a better than average no-lo offering), and superior bar snacks.”
