The Middleton Towers Restoration Group has said that its hopes to restore the old station have be given a boost after Network Rail said that a team will be inspecting soon to assess its state.

In March, members of the group met with a representative from Network Rail, who own the section of the site in question, to discuss the condition of the station and the group's aims for restoring it.

Alex Brammer, founder and organiser, said: "Network Rail have recently informed us that they will be instructing their team to carry out inspections of the site, to determine the viability of our plans and to check the safety of the site. This will take around a month to complete.
