Urgent safeguarding warning issued after child was approached at a Downham Market school




Police have been notified of a man approaching a child outside of a school.

Nelson Academy, a primary school in Downham, released an urgent safety warning following an incident on Wednesday.

They told parents on the app DoJo: "URGENT SAFEGUARDING: We have received a report of a child being approached by an unknown male on their way into school today. The police have been notified and are investigating. We would strongly advise that children do not walk to school on their own. Please talk to your child about the importance of stranger danger and how to keep themselves safe."

A parent of the school, who has two children there said: "The school has been great in keeping us informed, but it is unnerving."

The incident has been described by locals as an "attempted abduction" however this is yet to be confirmed by police.
