Terrington Veterinary Centre gives £1,000 grant to Terrington St Clement Community School towards cost of outdoor shelter

A village vets practice is helping a primary school to pay for an outdoor activity area for the pupils.

Terrington Veterinary Centre is part of the veterinary care provider IVC Evidensia, which launched its Community Grants Fund in early 2022.

These are aimed at helping veterinary practices to be able to play an active role in the communities in which they operate.

The grant has been awarded to Terrington St Clement Community School, which is currently raising funds for an outdoor shelter for the playground to hold a variety of activities for the children, and the £1,000 grant will be go towards this.

Kat Whitmore, chair of the Friends of the School Association (FOSA), said the playground shelter will be quite a large metal structure for multi-use and will be a base for any class to go and use.

It will be big enough to seat 30 children to accommodate a lesson outside so they can use it for anything from history to PE.

“It will be used by the children at break times and lunchtimes as a place to shelter from the weather, wind or sun,” she said.

“Some love to sit and read or draw or just chat with friends.

“Our FOSA committee can use it for after-school pop-ups such as fundraising bake sales or we’d love to start selling pre-loved books - ‘fill a bag for £2’ for example - to really give everyone a chance to access books for their children.”

The school will also be able to use it for events such as sports days, for refreshments, and also for any presentations or performances - inviting parents into the playground.
