VIDEO: Stunning starling murmuration spotted in skies above Swaffham
A fascinating sight has been spotted in the skies above Swaffham this week.
Reader Katy Price shared a video she took of the murmuration of starlings which she saw in Swaffham on Monday (January 14).
She said it looked like the birds might have been swarming a bird of prey.
Katy added: "It was beautiful and mesmerising to see. They are like a lava lamp all synchronised and communicating with each other amazingly."
According to the RSPB, a murmuration is "basically a mass aerial stunt", with thousands of birds swooping and diving in unison.
They say: "We think that starlings do it for many reasons. Grouping together offers safety in numbers – predators such as peregrine falcons find it hard to target one bird in the middle of a hypnotising flock of thousands."
