Hilgay's bridge over the River Wissey is to be regally renamed in tribute to The Queen's platinum jubilee.

From Saturday, June 4 it will be known as Hilgay Jubilee Bridge and will show off a colourful display of red, white and blue flowers for the rest of the summer alongside a temporary solar lights during the celebrations.

Blue plaques will be attached to the bridge in recognition of the event at a ceremony hosted by the parish council chairman, Graham Carter.

Celebration organisers also hope to add a river-based event – a boat cruise regatta is one idea - to the day's programme.

Activities planned for Thursday, June 2 between 8pm and 10pm will include a beacon lighting event with bunting strung along Church Avenue, Hilgay Silver Band playing proms-type music and the Riverside Academy schoolchildren singing and dancing.

The church will be open serving teas and cakes, including a jubilee tart, and a bugle player will sound the official jubilee fanfare.
