Review of The Swan in Fincham: Village pub offers amazing Thai food and has extra friendly staff too
When deciding where to go for my next food review I fancied somewhere offering something different from the other places I have visited.
When I looked at reviews of The Swan in Fincham I could see people thought highly of the place so I decided to give it a go and my parents and I booked a table for 7.30pm on Saturday.
We booked in the bar area as the restaurant was full and, upon entering were met with a nice atmosphere. A lovely, polite Thai waiter quickly showed us to our table.
Inside the restaurant felt very cosy, with detailed decor. It seemed like a lovely, clean, popular and friendly village pub.
There was a good range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to choose from, but my mum and dad both went for a coke and I decided to go for a lemonade with orange juice.
On the menu, there was a huge range to choose from including both English and a large array of Thai food.
My mum went for the Panang Nua which was ‘a rich curry of beef and coconut milk with lemon grass and lime leaves’ for £9.95 and Kao Phad Khai which was ‘fried rice with egg’ for £2.95.
My dad went for the Nua Nam Tok which was ‘a refreshing dish of grilled tenderloin steak flavoured with mint and coriander, tossed in a lime and chilli dressing’ for £9.95 and Kao Phad Khai which was ‘fried rice with egg’ for £2.95.
I decided to go for the Panang Gai which was ‘a rich curry of chicken and coconut milk with lemon grass and lime leaves’ for £9.95 and Kao Suey which was ‘plain jasmine boiled rice’ for £2 and then we got a starter of prawn crackers to share which was served with chilli oil for £2.95.
When we were waiting for our food, a very friendly waiter brought out our plates and cutlery.
Our food arrived fairly quickly and looked very appealing and smelt really nice with the rice and curry in two separate dishes.
My mum really enjoyed her dish and thought it was very impressive with the beef nice and tender and full of flavour.
My dad also enjoyed his and said it was really tasty, very spicy and full of flavour.
I could not fault my food, the portion size was great and the taste was very enjoyable.
After we finished our mains we were all quite full but after taking a look at the dessert menu we could not turn down the good choices.
My dad went for the strawberry jam sponge with custard, my mum went for the pineapple fritter with vanilla ice cream and cream and I decided to try the salted caramel sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream – all of these desserts were £5.50.
All three of us were pleased with our desserts and enjoyed them very much.
Overall we all enjoyed our meals, all the dishes were very tasty and full of flavour. The only slight downside was we could have done with a little more rice just to soak up the sauce.
The very friendly and chatty waiters made the experience that little extra pleasant and we would most definitely recommend the pub to others.
The Swan is located on the High Street in Fincham and is open Tuesday-Saturday from noon-10pm and Sundays from noon-7pm. They also offer a takeaway service.
