Mundford sports club set for approval by Breckland Council in spite of flooding fears

A football club’s hopes to build a new sports facility looks set for approval despite fears it could be built on land prone to flooding.

Mundford FC in conjunction with the village hall is seeking to construct a two-storey building which will include a ground floor club room, changing rooms and also a new overflow car parking area.

Breckland Council officers have recommended the premises be approved, which is to be built on land next to the football pitch in the village playing fields and recreational grounds.

But Mundford Parish Council has raised a number of concerns about the project, which include fears it is being built near a natural spring which is known to cause flooding.

According to members of the council, the location is often under 50mm of water after periods of prolonged wet weather.

There are also worries it could lead to more noise for neighbours and that the facility would not benefit the wider community although officers disputed this, arguing the football club plays a key role in the village.

Councillors will make a final decision on the plans next week.
