Braintree Town Res 2 Swaffham Town 3
The Pedlars returned to form to clinch a vital three points and promotion to the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division.
Following three poor results where luck and opportunity abandoned Swaffham, the team raised their game. Swaffham are three points and 24 goals ahead of third-spot Saffron Walden Town.
Braintree Town Reserves took the lead 35 minutes into the game, a low driven cross hitting keeper Lee Brooks and deflecting into the net.
Number 10 Alex Vincent levelled for the Pedlars on the stroke of half time, played through by Mikey Thompson, Vincent comfortably netting into the top right corner.
Ten minutes into the second half, Swaffham took the lead with a fantastic lob from Joe Jackson.
Jackson received the ball 25 yards out, carried the ball to create space and position, looked to see his options and lobbed the keeper from 20 yards, the ball bouncing a yard over the line.
Vincent made it three for Swaffham 10 minutes later, a strike from just outside of the area, across the goal and keeper to net in the top right hand corner.
A defensive mistake with seven minutes to go saw the home-side claim a second goal but the Pedlars hung on for the final whistle to claim their three points.
Next Saturday the Pedlars finish their season with a home game against Woodbridge Town Reserves.
The Reserves finished their season with a 1-0 defeat at home to Easton. A great top half of the table finish for them following a busy and difficult season.
The Under 18’s finished their league run with a 1-0 victory at home to Mildenhall Town, Dylan Edge netting for the Pedlars. That leaves them in a very respectable third position with a few other games to be played.
The U18’s in the semi-final of the Thurlow Nunn Youth Cup will play either Histon or Royston at Shoemakers Lane, Thursday, April 30.
