Watlington to host a memorial football match on June 26 in aid of King's Lynn 8:56 Foundation

Watlington playing field will host a memorial football match on Sunday, June 26 at 1pm in memory of team-mate Shaun Barnes.

Barnesy's Bois will face the Sheep's Squad in aid of the 8:56 Foundation which was launched in memory of King's Lynn Town FC fan Lee Calton to raise awareness of mental health issues.

One of the organisers, Jay Johnson, said it will be the first proper memorial game for about ten years after a previous attempt was snowed off.

He added: "Shaun passed 15 years ago on the railway lines on his way to Watlington. He was known as Sheepy when he played for West Winch.

"It's going to be a big come together for the family and friends of Shaun.

"We have run some of these before. This is to commemorate his 15 year anniversary and we've decided to run the game for a charitable cause.

"All funds raised are going to the 8:56 Foundation as we believe this is a huge charity that will do a lot for the King's Lynn community."

Jay is organising the game with Gavin Hawes who played with Shaun at Watlington and South Lynn.

They are expecting a good turn out, with food available and drinks and a raffle afterwards in the clubhouse.

He added: "We can't believe we have all the stuff we've got for the raffle."
