The Lattice House in King's Lynn welcomes its first customers after reopening

The new landlord of Lynn's historic Lattice House pub has pledged to make it a venue at the heart of the community.

Gary Haime, who is the director of several pubs and clubs in the Wisbech area, was at today's reopening of the former 15th century coaching inn in Chapel Street.

He said: "My first experience of The Lattice House was in my youth and and I have always thought that it's a beautiful building.

"But I think that people have got it wrong in the past and it needs to be a community pub, a drinkers' pub, but with great food."

He grew up in Wisbech where he is director of five pubs – the Coyote Bar, VIP Lounge, Hare and Hound, Kennedy's and the Black Bear – as well as a restaurant, although his main business concern is with insurance and finance.

He plans to introduce food in future, but is keen to get input from customers on what they want.

"This is why I am having this soft launch today, so that we can find out what it is that people want," he said. "The menu would have traditional food, affordable and fresh daily.

"We may start off with food at lunchtime and we will also look at the possibility of having a table carvery. At the Black Bear, this has been hugely successful.

"The Black Bear is a spit and sawdust pub – and people love it. The Lattice House is a fantastic venue and it will be rammed full of people again."

He is looking to make the pub an affordable option, and will selling pints of Foster at £1.95 per pint, a price he said was very competitive.

Strongbow's Dark Fruit and Cloudy Apple will be on offer at £2.40.

The reopening has created between eight to ten new jobs, which include chefs' roles and front-of-house staff.

The new managers are Mikey Dennis and Peter Ryan, who both have several years' experience in the hospitality industry.

The Lattice House will be open from noon to midnight from Sunday to Thursday and from noon until 1am on Fridays and Saturdays.
