Welney becomes a lake once again

More news, no ads

Once again the A1101 Wash Road at Welney is closed due to flooding.

The depth of water on the road today stood at an impressive 3.16m (10.3ft). Anything over 2.40m will begin to flood the road, according to the Environment Agency (EA) website.

The road closure means a lengthy diversion for motorists making their way across the fens.

At least four cars are reported to have needed to have been pulled from the water in the past week after misjudging its depth.

Today photographer Ian Burt flew a drone over the flooding to give Lynn News readers an idea of the scale of the deluge.

The EA wants to install a flood barrier on the road in 2021which will mean the road being closed for up to six weeks.
