The arrival of Lockdown 2 doesn't feel so hard to adjust to, comments accountant at Stephenson Smart in King's Lynn

What a difference a few weeks make.

During my last ramble the boys were back to almost all their clubs, I was working from the office and life was beginning to turn a corner.

Now we have been plunged back into lockdown, home working and more online gymnastics.

The difference is that this time it doesn’t feel so hard to adjust to.

Did we secretly expect it? Are we more accepting of what life throws at us? Have we just become accustomed to a simple life without socialising and material needs?

The main difference for me is that I’m not attempting to make a robot out of a milk carton for one child while keeping the other one away from the biscuit tin – because the boys are at school!

Peace is shattered however at 3.30pm when they return home. My living room becomes a sports ground with the fireplace doubling up as a football goal and I have been assured the sofa is a perfectly adequate springboard.

Lockdown 2 has also signalled the extension of furlough, with Rishi Sunak confirming the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) has been extended until March 31, although a review is expected on January 31. This time round you are not required to have previously made a claim.

Business Bounce Back Loans have also been extended until January 31 with no interest charged or repayments needed in the first 12 months. You can borrow up to £50,000 and those that have already applied but received less can apply to top it up.

The Self Employment Income Support Scheme has also been extended, with the third one opening on November 30.

This grant will offer 80 per cent of average trading profits capped at £7,500 for the whole three-month period between November 1 and January 31.
