West Norfolk Athletic Club joined forces with Dereham Runners AC at the first Southern Athletics League match at Lynnsport and finished a respectable fourth.

The combined team had lots of great performances on the track and field with Taylor Benson winning 100m, 100m Hurdles and 200m. Michaela Raine, Ashley Jarvis and Jake Stearman showed good track speed in their first league appearances. Clive Baker made his return to pole vault and gave a strong performance. Katrina Wasteney had a very busy day in the 3000m,400m Hurdles, 2000m Steeplechase, Shot and Discus. Becky Cousins and Nicky Neill had great season openers and Emma Dewdney impressed the crowd getting a personal best (2 metres) in Pole Vault. Jack Pishorn had a good day of competition and Cameron Ross ran very competitively in the 100m and 200m.

WNAC’s sprint experts Matthew Bailey, Craig Brooks and Aaron Raine all had top three finishes. James Greenhalgh finished strongly in the 400m Hurdles and Wesley Houghton ran with grit and determination for a 5.35 1500m.

Adrian Coote and Adam Dewdney picked up vital points in the Shot, Discus, Hammer and Javelin. A dissent High Jump and Long Jump from Rahim Benson added more points in the windy conditions.

Man of the match went to Luke Foster with an excellent High Jump, breaking the two year old division record in 1m96cm. Foster aims to clear 2m by the end of the season.
