Holkham beach named one of England’s best in winter by GO Outdoors
A Norfolk beach has been named among England's top places for a winter visit to the seaside.
Looking at factors such as average rainfall, temperature, daylight hours, and popularity, the team at GO Outdoors rated and ranked the country’s best late-year coastal strolls.
Taking sixth place in the rankings is Holkham Beach, which scored well across the categories - including a 9.07/10 for a seaside walk.
According to climate data, the beach receives an average of 75mm of rainfall between November and February - with around 4.2 hours of daylight.
The location was searched for on Google 356,200 times from October 2023 to September 2024, and has a review score of 4.7/5.
The beach is no stranger to receiving recognition for its appearance and attracting a high volume of visitors throughout the year.
In August, Holkham was also named as one of the best beaches by The Times and Sunday Times.
Calum Jones, author and outdoor enthusiast at GO Outdoors, said: “Although the cold weather may cause people to stay inside, there is no better time to explore the UK than the winter months.
“As crowds disperse, visitors to beaches often find themselves with miles of coastline to themselves.
“You may even spot local wildlife, such as seals, who return to the shore in winter months.
“I would recommend wrapping up in the colder months, wearing base layers, and investing in a good waterproof jacket to ensure you can enjoy English beaches no matter the weather.”
