West Dereham bridge shut because of culvert damage

A bridge in a West Norfolk village has been closed with immediate effect because of safety concerns.

Emergency repairs will be made to the crossing on Ryston Road, West Dereham after the Christmas break following damage to a culvert below.

A Norfolk County Council statement today said: "Following a report of damage to the culvert on Ryston Road, West Dereham, it has become necessary to close the road over the culvert to all vehicular traffic until repair works can be carried out early in the new year.

"We believe recent high water flow and levels have caused the upstream headwall to detach from the culvert resulting in a deep hole in the verge.

"The County Council thanks people for their patience while these bridge maintenance works are being carried out."
