West Norfolk councillor believes he was hacked after social media post shared

A West Norfolk councillor has said he believes he has been the victim of a social media hack.

It comes after a comment which appeared to be from Adrian Lawrence’s Facebook page was shared on Twitter last week, which said “should of saved the egg and used a brick instead” in response to a news story about Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn being hit by an egg.

A Twitter account – @MatesJacob – which claims to investigate “institutional racism and Islamophobia” in the Conservative Party, posted a screenshot of the comment which appeared to be from a Facebook account bearing Mr Lawrence’s name and photograph, on Friday.

The account accused the councillor of “inciting a serious assault”, following the egg incident which happened in Islington in March.

But Mr Lawrence, who is cabinet member for housing, said “people who want to make up trouble” should be ignored.

He said: “I’m not into playing silly games with left wing activists, my Facebook account is and has always been locked down.

“I would suggest this is a result of a hack or someone trying to stir up trouble.

“There has been comments in the past aimed at councillors, MPs and even the Prime Minister, we must just get on with the job in hand and ignore people who want to make up trouble.”
