West Norfolk fundraiser Jim Briscoe takes on 10-mile mud run for air ambulance charity

A West Norfolk fundraiser has completed a major fundraising challenge in aid of the East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA).

Jim Briscoe, pictured above, was among a record 1,850 people to take part in the Only The Brave 10-Mile Mud Run in Elveden Forest, near Thetford, on Sunday.

He completed the longer 10 mile course on behalf of both Beers of Europe and the Warehouse Antiques and Collectables centre in Setch.

His partner Zoe Briscoe works for the Warehouse Antiques.

And Jim was also joined for the challenge by a team from the Fakenham-based Black Shuck Gin Company, whose products are stocked at Beers of Europe.

The run, which is now in its fourth year, was one of the first fundraisers to take place since last month’s announcement that the EAAA aims to become a 24-hour service by the end of 2020.

At present, there is no helicopter emergency medical service (HEMS) cover in the region between midnight and 7am each day.

But the charity estimates it will need to raise a further £1 million a year, on top of the £12 million that is needed annually to maintain the current levels of service, in order to achieve its goal.

Since it was set up in 2000, the charity’s crews have treated more than 25,000 patients in emergency situations.

Money is still coming in for Jim and supporters can still make donations towards his fundraising effort online via www.justgiving.com/fundraising/jimbriscoe or in person at either Beers of Europe or the Warehouse Antiques and Collectables on Garage Lane, Setch.
