West Norfolk junior badminton finals so close

West Norfolk Junior Badminton, which is sponsored by Roythorne’s Garage of North Wootton, held its annual championships at Alive Lynnsport, with many close and exciting games taking place.

The younger age group events took place first, with the under 8 boys singles, which was won by Joshua Harvey with Oscar Griffen as runner-up and Alex Holford third.

The biggest entry of the day was in the U10 boys singles which was won by Harry Wakefield, defeating Jack Harvey by 15-5 in the final. The semi-finalists were Jude Lindsay and Max Smith, after finishing runners-up in the group stages. Toby Birkhead and Alex Haslam just missed out on the semis, finishing third in their respective groups.

In a close finale to the U12 girls singles, three girls finished with six wins and 99 points each; Phoebe Claxton, Elianna Dockerty and Willow Taylor, with Willow coming out on top having conceded the least number of points, with Elianna runner-up.

The U10 girls played with the U12s for more competition, so Megan Skeen won the U10 girls singles title, defeating Merissa Lawrence.

In the U12 boys singles, group B winner Charlie Wakefield defeated group A runner-up Jamie Salas Brown, in the first semi-final. In the second semi, group A winner Harry Wakefield defeated group B runner-up Luc Widdowson. In the final Charlie Wakefield defeated younger brother Harry by 21-9.

After finishing third in their respective groups, Jack Watts and Alfie Cator just failed to make the semis.

U12 - girls doubles: Elianna Dockerty and Phoebe Claxton, Willow Taylor and Shania Dick runners-up. Boys doubles: Charlie and Harry Wakefield, Luc Widdowson and Jack Harvey runners-up.
