South West Norfolk MP Liz Truss given International Trade job in new government

A West Norfolk politician has been given a key government post in Boris Johnson's new Cabinet.

South West Norfolk MP Liz Truss has been appointed as International Trade Secretary this evening.

And, in a social media post a short time ago, she said she was "delighted" at the appointment, which will be widely seen as a promotion.

Ms Truss had been one of Mr Johnson's key aides in the Conservative leadership contest, which he was confirmed as the winner of yesterday.

She replaces Dr Liam Fox, who is one of more than half of the ministers in Theresa May's cabinet who have either resigned or been sacked by Mr Johnson since he formally took over as Prime Minister earlier today.

And she paid tribute to his "excellent work" in the department, which was established in the wake of the EU referendum three years ago.
