A new campaign was launched yesterday, which officials hope will encourage people in West Norfolk to live healthier lives.

Free health checks are being offered to residents aged between 40 and 74 at around 30 doctors’ surgeries and pharmacies around West Norfolk during the initiative.

Norfolk County Council is funding the programme and Paul Smyth, the authority’s communities committee chairman, said yesterday: “I would urge everyone who is eligible for a free Health Check to take one, it should only last 30 minutes but could make an enormous difference their health and well being.”

Dr Boaventura Rodrigues, from Public Health Norfolk, added: “The NHS Health Checks provide a rare opportunity for you to sit down with a health professional and talk about your bespoke health requirements. You can find out facts about your health which means you can then take control of it and make any necessary changes.”

The service is available to residents aged 40 to 74, who have not had a similar check within the last five years and who have not already been diagnosed with any heart conditions, high blood pressure, kidney disease or diabetes.
