West Norfolk road to be closed as floods expected
A busy West Norfolk road will be closed later today because of expected flooding.
A flood alert has been issued by the Environment Agency for the Hundred Foot Washes area due to rising levels.
And Norfolk County Council has taken to social media to urge drivers not to use the A1101 Wash Road from later this afternoon.
A post on its Twitter account a short time ago said: "The A1101 Welney Wash Road will be closed tonight, due to the predicted high tide and likely flooding.
"Drivers are strongly advised not to use this route after dusk today."
The A1101 is regularly shut for weeks in the winter by floods, forcing lengthy diversions for motorists.
Discussions have been taking place in recent months about ways of reducing the impact of flooding, though it is feared that some proposals to raise the height of the road could cost tens of millions of pounds to deliver.
