Since then, around 1,350 votes have been cast between the nominated occasions.

And, although the winner will not be announced until the ceremony at Lynn’s Corn Exchange next month, we can now reveal the three events which received the most votes.

They are, in alphabetical order, Festival Too, the Hanseatic Water Ski Races and the Hunstanton Carnival.

Lynn News editor Mark Leslie said: “We have been absolutely delighted with the fantastic response by our readers to the Community Event of the Year poll, with more than 1,300 taking the trouble to cast a vote for their favourite.

“The vibrancy of West Norfolk means that we could have easily have doubled the number of events featured in the nominations.

“West Norfolk Council deserve a lot of credit for that but principally the plaudits should go to the people of the borough. It is they who organise and support these fantastic events in such numbers.

“We all have our favourites, but the people have spoken. Well done particularly to those on the shortlist - you saw off some tough competition to make it to the top.”

Representatives of the shortlisted events will now be invited to attend the Mayor’s Business Awards ceremony on Friday, March 4, where the winner of this award and the eight other award categories will be announced.

The other events to be nominated were the Classic Car Day, the Downham Market Water Festival, Fairytales and Legends, the King’s Lynn Lions Family Fun Day, Lynn Luminere, Picnic on the Green and the Spitfire Trail.
