Several West Norfolk Junior Badminton players represented Norfolk at the recent East Region Pairs competition at the Sportspark in Norwich, with opponents from Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire.

The competition was split into three age groups with Sean Lott and Ben Watts as the under 17 B team, Joe Rolfe and Daniel Hughes from Downham the U15 A team, Jessi Bateman and her Norwich partner Caitlin Parfitt in U15 B and Charlie Wakefield in U13 A with brother Harry Wakefield in U13 B.

Sean and Ben finished fourth in the U17s after one win, defeating Bedfordshire B.

However, Joe and Daniel won the overall U15 boys event having finished top of their group and then defeated Norfolk B in the final by 2 games to 1.

Jessi Bateman had to play up an age group as her U13 ranking is too high, so in the U15 girls event, after winning all three matches in their group, she and her partner caused an upset by beating the Norfolk A pairing 3-0 in the final.

Norfolk U13 A boys won the overall event, with Charlie Wakefield and his Norwich partner Aruneesh Velu winning all four of their matches. In probably the closest event, younger brother Harry nearly caused an upset having match point against Velu in their singles game, but lost 22-20, so the B team finished runners-up.
