Cabinet member Brian Long said: “We are delighted that we won’t need to miss any recycling collections this year, black and green bins will be emptied on the same fortnightly pattern with food waste being collected on the same day as either your green bin or your black bin.”

Collection dates can be found on the council’s website. If you put out your bin for collection on the correct day and it is missed contact Kier by calling 01553 776676.

Additional side waste will be collected if it is tied with a red tag which can be bought for £1.50 from the council offices, plus compostable bags for food waste can also be bought.

Cllr Long said: “We want people to eat, drink and be merry this Christmas, but we also want them to think about the food they waste.”

Real Christmas trees can be be put into the brown bin or the council is running shredding events. Trees will be chipped on Saturday, January 9, at Hunstanton Recreation Ground car park from 9am to noon, and 1pm to 3pm at Gaywood Plant Nursery. Trees can be chipped at Downham Town Council offices between January 4 and 11.

If poor weather causes a disruption service, updates will be posted on the council’s website and announced on Twitter.
