The Rose & Crown at Snettisham named by The Good Pub Guide 2020 as Norfolk Dining Pub of the Year

Snettisham's The Rose & Crown has been awarded the coveted Norfolk Dining Pub of the Year title by The Good Pub Guide 2020.

Editors of the Guide described the quintessentially English village inn as being “impressive" and having "imaginative food using the best local produce" and "friendly staff”.

Jeannette Goodrich, who has owned the inn with her husband Anthony for 24 years, said they were thrilled and praised their hard-working team.

She said: "This award really is down to teamwork. Everyone takes a pride in the business and that translates itself onto our customers. Our staff have a real enthusiasm to take the business forward."

The pub, run by manager Kim Tinkler and head chef Marcela Morales, has a loyal following of both locals and visitors and has been named as one of the Guide's UK Top Ten Pubs for the last six years.

“We love food at The Rose & Crown, and good food is at the heart of everything we do. Our menu combines traditional pub favourites and more exotic dishes," said Jeannette.

Fresh quality ingredients from the local area are used as much as possible, such assamphire and mussels from Brancaster, oysters from Thornham, crabs from Cromer, asparagus, salads, herbs and soft fruit. Most suppliers are within a 15- mile radius and deliver daily, ensuring ingredients are ultra-fresh.

Said Jeannette: "Kim, Marcela and I work together to ensure that our menu is balanced and incorporates the new trends in eating and the increased popularity of vegetarian and vegan dishes, not just amongst vegetarians and vegans.

"Our menu includes tapas and sharing platters and dishes where the star item is the vegetable/salad element and meat comes as an optional extra. It also remains true to our pub heritage, with our famous hamburgers made with prime Norfolk beef, and our spectacular fish and chips.

"The menu always includes options for allergen-related diets, and many dishes can be adapted to suit."

Said Anthony: “We greatly value our staff, both in the kitchen and front of house, who take such a pride in the business, and create the friendly, relaxed and welcoming atmosphere for which The Rose & Crown has become so well known. I am thrilled for all of them – they are a key element in winning this award, and it is a great endorsement of their dedication and hard work.”

This recent award for the pub can be added to a growing list, which includes being named UK Pub of the Year in The Good Pub Guide 2015. It has been selected as Editor’s Choice Family Hotel of the Year 2019 in The Good Hotel guide and for the past three years it has been named "A Local Gem" in the Michelin Guide.

The inn has 16 bedrooms.

Anthony and Jeannette Goodrich also own Bank House in Lynn, an 11-bedroom townhouse hotel, bar and brasserie.
