West Norfolk animal lover starts up her own dog training business
Many of us dream of ditching our 9-5 office jobs to follow our passions, and animal lover Lindsay Lampe has done just that.
After spending several years working with dogs in Germany, Lindsay relocated to the UK in 2019 and was looking for a new challenge involving animals.
Based at Wimbotsham, Lindsay has decided to turn her passion into a career by launching Canine Connect, having accumulated a wealth of practical and theoretical knowledge in training dogs for more than a decade.
Mrs Lampe explained: “About 15 years ago, I had a lot of issues with a couple of dogs and there wasn’t a lot of help available.
“Finally I got in touch with a trainer and dog behaviour expert who helped me solve those problems and he taught me basically everything that I know.
“My experience of not having much support on hand to start with made me contemplate starting up my own business and I’ve always loved dogs ever since I was a little girl.
Canine Connect’s aim is to unlock that great partnership, based on trust, calmness and confidence.
Training is tailored to suit all clients and their pets, bringing out the best in both parties.
Her best laid plans to start the business in March of last year were put on hold because of Covid-19.
“I was ready to go last March but given the situation we were in with the pandemic, I thought it was absolutely pointless so I revisited the idea this February with restrictions set to ease,” she explained.
“I currently have four dogs, two of which are from rescue organisations.
“Dogs and their behaviour have always fascinated me.
“I now have more than 10 years experience of helping human/canine partnerships become rewarding for both parties.
“The fostering of approximately 30 dogs of different breeds and backgrounds gave me further valuable insight into canine management and behaviour.
“Some of those just needed a little bit of therapy to help them on their way.
“I believe in fear-free, reward based training and do not condone the use of so-called training aids.”
Canine Connect offers an all about your puppy programme, general obedience training as well as solutions for behavioural issues – if your dog is showing unwanted or worrying behaviour.
Because of the current restrictions, all one-to-one training takes place outside, socially-distanced, unless at the request of the client.
Both weekend and early evening appointments are available for any interested clients.
