Drink-driver who crashed into ditch in Nordelph admitted it was ‘stupid’
A drink-driver who drove into a ditch in Nordelph has described his actions as “stupid”.
Reinis Veinsteins, 23, appeared at Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday where he admitted to driving above the specified alcohol limit.
Prosecutor Katharine Kibrya-Dean said that on July 24, an anonymous witness saw the Citroen Berlingo van that Veinsteins was driving crash into a ditch while going around a corner at around 9.40am.
Police and ambulance arrived at the scene on Silt Road and a breath test came back with a reading of 62mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg.
The court heard that Veinsteins was previously a man of good character.
He appeared unrepresented in court and said: “Obviously what I did was very stupid.
“My first job had sacked me, it’s been difficult but I’ve found a new job in a factory.
“It’s going to be tough without a licence living in March, there’s not that much public transport.”
Magistrates disqualified Veinsteins from driving for 18 months and fined him £250.
Veinstains, of The Parks in March, was also ordered to pay court costs of £105 and a victim surcharge of £100.
