Where will speed limits change on A47 between King’s Lynn, Wisbech and Peterborough?
There are going to be major changes to speed limits on the A47 once a major project is complete - but where will be affected?
Work is ongoing on the key road between Lynn and Peterborough, with overnight closures becoming a key fixture in the calendar.
Work started on February 24 between Wisbech and Lynn, and this is ongoing.
This is set to continue, before the Guyhirn to Wisbech road is completed and finally from Guyhirn to Peterborough.
The £6million National Highways project will see 20 new average speed cameras installed across the A47.
But where will the speed limits change?
The stretch from the Shoreboat roundabout to the Pullover roundabout in Lynn will be reduced from 60mph to 50mph, with the Guyhirn to Wisbech stretch having the same speed reduction.
The Thorney Toll to Guyhirn stretch will also change from 60mph to 50mph.
The biggest change is set to be where the A47 passes Thorney Toll village, where the speed limit will decrease from 60mph to 40mph.
The dual carriageway heading from Lynn to Wisbech will still be a 70mph zone.
The carriageway passing Thorney will also be kept at 70mph.
There is already a short 40mph zone at Guyhirn which will remain in place.
Work is expected to be complete by this winter, according to National Highways.
Regional director for the east region, Martin Fellows, previously said: “Our work has identified sections of the A47 where we believe safety improvements can be made.
“These changes to the speed limit aim to reduce the frequency and severity of collisions which helps keep traffic flowing and creates safer roads for everyone.”
At the moment, there are extremely lengthy overnight delays for anyone travelling between Lynn and Wisbech.
The official diversion takes drivers all the way through Elm and Outwell to reach Downham before heading to Lynn - and vice-versa.
Originally, this work was supposed to be complete by May.
