'Have you met the Queen?' North West Norfolk MP James Wild visits Brancaster CofE VA Primary School




North West Norfolk MP James Wild enjoyed his first visit to Brancaster CofE VA Primary School, where key stage 2 pupils had the opportunity to quiz him on his work as their parliamentary representative.

Questions ranged from why fuel costs are so high, what his favourite part of being a MP was, how many hours a week he worked, and if he had met the Queen.

Improving educational outcomes is one of Mr Wild’s priorities for West Norfolk and he heard about Brancaster's focus on helping children develop lively, enquiring minds and an enthusiasm for learning.

During the visit, Mr Wild discussed with Gavin King, executive headteacher of the St Mary Federation the importance of village schools, approaches to literacy teaching, the national tutoring programme, and support children with special educational needs.

Commenting after the visit the MP said: "What happens in schools will shape the life chances of young people so it was impressive to see the efforts Brancaster primary schools goes to give their pupils the opportunity to succeed.

"One of the school's values is to be curious and they certainly lived up to that in the Q&A session.”

Earlier in the week Mr Wild was joined by Gavin King, executive headteacher of the St Mary Federation, along with Docking CofE Primary Schoo.l

The latter school enjoyed a tour learning about the history of the Houses of Parliament, and had a further Q&A session with James on his role as MP.
