James Wild praises Conservative Party pledge to stop new waste incinerator coming to Wisbech

The Conservative Party has pledged to stop an unwanted incinerator from coming to town.

James Wild, the Conservative Party candidate for North West Norfolk, has welcomed the Tories’ manifesto pledge to stop new waste incinerators being built.

Plans for a new incinerator at Wisbech were recently approved - but the pledge is to revoke permits where substantial construction has not yet taken place.

Mr Wild spoke in the House of Commons about the “inappropriate nature” of the plans, which he said would result in 300 lorry journeys a day, a structure bigger than Ely Cathedral near a school, and raise environmental and health concerns.

Mr Wild said: "Having campaigned against the Wisbech incinerator and spoken against it in Parliament, I welcome the Conservative manifesto commitment which would stop that scheme.

“This is an unnecessary project and local residents now know that only the Conservatives would stop it."
